Savikko Park Performance Pavillion
The Pioneer Pavilion plaque was unveiled on May 14, 2011, Arbor Day Celebration. This capped the completion of the Douglas 4th of July Committee project of a performance/band stand at Savikko Park, Douglas.
The pavilion provides a covered, open space for music, dance, speaking, static displays and other performance during holidays and special events. It also can serve as an additional covered picnic shelter.
The squared log structure was under construction April 2009 to Fall 2010. It is similar in style to the current log picnic shelter and the Yakutat US Forest Service performance pavilion as designed by Jenson, Yorba & Lott, Inc.
The logs were supplies by Ice Straits Logging. CBJ Parks and Recreation designated a foot pad locations in 2nd ball field for the pavilion. The Parks Division has planted the lawn and two memorial benches have been donated.
Donation of money and time were given by: The Pioneers of Alaska, Holland-American, Douglas Advisory Committee, Gold Rush Days, Douglas 4ht of July Committee, the Juneau Steamship Co., AGGPRO, Alaska Stone & Concrete Inc., Chatham Electric, Inc., Channel Construction Inc., North Pacific Erectors, Silver bow Construction, Tyler Rental Inc., U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Liberty Crew & Friends, Douglas Volunteer Fire Fighters, Rozwick-Giles Music, Commercial Signs & Printing, Jensen, Yorba & Lott Inc., and the City/Borough of Juneau.
