Douglas Winter Programs
Celebrate winter with us! We decorate and light a tree every year and host a Winter Skate with Santa at the Treadwell Ice Arena during the winter holidays.
Tree Lighting
2010 Date and time to be announced. An official community tree-lighting ceremony is held each year in November at the Douglas Community Methodist Church, 1106 Third St., Douglas. In 2009, our program began with a tuba concert, followed by the traditional ceremony with caroling. We ask everyone to bring a flashlight and leave dogs at home. Caroling, refreshments, ceremony, and live music accompany the tree-lighting. Download the 2009 Winter Program (.pdf)
Skate with Santa
2010 Date and time to be announced. Free to children 12 and under. Skate with Santa at the Treadwell Ice Arena, 105 Savikko Drive. Treadwell Arena staff decorate the arena and Santa and his elves skate with children to holiday music. The Douglas 4th of July Committee pays skating and skate rental fees for childern 12 and under.
2009 Update: The Douglas Christmas tree was strung to leave up lights over the year. Pat Peterson reinforced the star supports. Posters put up, PSAs sent out to the media. There was a nice evening and a good crowd on November 27. The Tuba Christmas concert in the church before the lighting was enjoyed greatly. Skate with Santa and his merry elves had a good attendance. Thank you letter was sent to the media for the volunteers’ help for a successful night in Douglas.
